The Abia State head of service (HoS), Benson Ojeikere, has urged the Federal Mortgage Bank (FMB) to revive its suspended housing project in the state.

Ojeikere made the appeal yesterday when a management team of the FMB led by its executive director, Chinyere Anosike paid him a visit in Umuahia, the state capital.

He noted that the FMB should not only make the revived houses affordable, but should also review some of the existing eligibility conditions to make them accessible to civil servants.

The HoS explained that the Alex Otti administration in the state remains resolute in its commitment to better the lots of the civil servants, making it a top priority on its agenda.

Ojeikere, who described the housing project as strategic to complementing the administration’s efforts at housing project development, lauded the team for the visit.

In an address earlier, Anosike said they came to appeal to the government to assist the FMB to recover backlog of payments from loans granted to civil servants from 2019 to May 2025.

The executive director disclosed that some deductions made by the ministries, departments and agencies were yet to be remitted to the FMB to update their records as well as for sustainability.

Applauding the administration for its achievements, she added that the remaining 18 housing units to complete the 100 built by the FMB at Ubani Housing Estate had been officially handed over to their beneficiaries.

A former labour union leader in the state, Chris Okoro informed both the HoS and the FMB that some contributors to the project, who are now retired, were yet to be allocated houses.
